March 2015-This Month in Cycling
March at Lakeside Bicycles: In like a Lion, out like a really tough Lamb.
On Saturday, March 1st in 1941 the first edition of Captain America appears. The character is usually depicted as the alter ego of Steve Rogers, a frail young man enhanced to the peak of human perfection by an experimental serum to aid the United States government's imminent efforts in World War II. Near the end of the war, he was trapped in ice and survived in suspended animation until he was revived in the present day to subsequently become the long-time leader of the Avengers.">

on Friday, March 7th in 1530,King Henry VIII's (28 June 1491 – 28 January 1547) divorce request is denied by the Pope. Henry then declares that he, not the Pope, is supreme head of England's church
Suffering from the early stages of syphilitic dementia, he goes on to declare that: large cats are dogs, that "These are the times that try men's souls" and appoints a large Cedar tree at Hampton Court as Prime Minister. As far as the rest of England was concerned, the 28th of January 1547 didn't come a moment too soon, that is until they got to meet his oldest daughter who is fondly remembered in history as "Bloody Mary" (acorns not falling far from the tree and so forth).">

On Wednesday, March 21st in 1804 France adopted the "Napoleonic Code" The Napoleonic Code (French: Code Napoléon, and officially Code civil des Français). The code forbade privileges based on birth, allowed freedom of religion, and specified that government jobs should go to the most qualified.
It was drafted rapidly by a commission of four eminent jurists and entered into force on 21 March 1804. The Code, with its stress on clearly written and accessible law, was a major step in replacing the previous patchwork of feudal laws. Historian Robert Holtman regards it as one of the few documents that have influenced the whole world.
The Napoleonic Code was not the first legal code to be established in a European country with a civil legal system; it was preceded by the Codex Maximilianeus bavaricus civilis (Bavaria, 1756), the Allgemeines Landrecht (Prussia, 1794), and the West Galician Code (Galicia, then part of Austria, 1797). It was, however, the first modern legal code to be adopted with a pan-European scope, and it strongly influenced the law of many of the countries formed during and after the Napoleonic Wars. The Napoleonic Code was very influential on developing countries outside of Europe, especially in the Middle East, that were attempting to modernize their country through legal reforms.">
