We used Phil Wood 48 spoke tandem hubs with the rear hub set to 130 mm to match standard road frames, Phil Wood 14 g straight spokes and brass nipples, and Velocity Dyad tandem rims. We then lavished unlimited attention to detail including a five cross spoke pattern as suggested by the late, lamented Sheldon Brown on the one wheel set who's weight limits you are never, ever going to exceed.
