Knickers are great for Spring and Autumn riding, everyone knows that.  And nothing beats a great pair of shorts (like Giordana Forma Reds) for long, hot, humid summer rides.  Or so we thought. . . . and then Giordana comes out with EXO System™ bib knickers and turns everything upside down.

EXO?  "EXternal Optimization™"?  So what.  There have been extravagant performance claims for new clothing concepts since the day someone stuck a tunic under a toga.   What Giordana has done is to combine various exotic textiles with design brilliance, years of cycling experience, super high quality Italian construction to create a new benchmark in cycling specific compression clothing that is lighter, better breathing, more comfortable (even at 95 degrees at 95% humidity) and more supportive than anything you have ever worn.

For most of EVO knickers, Giordana used their certified Power Lycra fabric, Moovix™, in areas covering muscle groups which benefit from its compressive composition. With a composition weight of 210g/m2, Moovix's compression level is nearly that found in recovery pieces. Where it differs is that it does not feature the gradient design that propagates the enhanced blood flow to the heart. Instead, Moovix is designed to focus on muscle support and isolation thereby limiting needless muscle movement in the pedal stroke, while protecting riders from the fatigue-inducing effects of road vibration and muscle oscillation.  Where past experience with more primitive compression textiles might warn of an overly tight and stuffy fit, Moovix a hollow microfiber composition that's been knit into a honeycomb structure. This results in Moovix comfortably stretching in all dimensions while actually enhancing ventilation and moisture transfer.

Elsewhere Giordana has deployed its new GranFondo™ material which features a higher thread count than Moovix making it lighter, softer and more conforming while achieving a similar level of compression.  On high wear areas, the inner thigh and seat panel, Giordana uses Zaffiro™.  As soft as Granfondo to the skin, Zaffiro is much more resistant to abrasion, significantly extending the life of the knickers at no cost to comfort.

At the waist Giordana uses the same Ametista Core Contour™ system found in FormaRed Carbon shorts.  Ametista fabric has nearly the same composition weight as Moovix but includes woven-in carbon threads in its construction to control stretch and reinforce the honeycomb-knit, making it lighter and stronger and ideally suited to act as a sort of built in belt.

Giordana's new AeroFix Pro™ uppers provide abundant engineered support and universal stretch to nail down the EVO's ffit.  While AeroFix Pro offers abundant ventilation, the addition of light weight Illusion™ mesh panels at the rear upper panel of the hips is the final, master's touch in temperature and moisture management.  Carefully oriented flatlock seams hold the EXO knickers together, following muscle groups of the legs to provide even more isolation and support while enhancing overall aerodynamics and fit in the saddle.  Overall the elements of EXO's design and construction result in a skin-suit like fit that increases airflow over the body, improves ventilation and aerodynamics all the while supporting hard working muscle groups and knees.

The EXO's get Giordana's Cirro O.F.™ chamois.  The Cirro has a 4mm thick pad of waffle textured expanding memory foam.  The texture improves ventilation and allows moisture to move to the perimeter of the chamois for rapid evaporation.  The final layer is a thick section of hand-sewn open cell padding with recessed channels for pressure management.  The final touch is to infuse Aloe Vera directly into the microfiber surface of the chamois.  Not only a natural bacteria fighter, Aloe provides an additional cooling effect while aiding healing.  These features result in a chamois that stays dry and nice even 100 miles into a ride.

As a final feature, all EXO System products, shorts, knickers, jerseys, etc. provide better than SPF 50 sun block protection.  .
